Android · closed test
The Android build is on Google Play as a closed test, your Google account has to be on the tester list before Play will let you in. Do these in order:

Join the tester group. It is a public Google Group, and being in it is what puts you on Play's tester list.
Join it with the same Google account you are signed in to on the tablet. Play matches the tester list against the account signed in to the Play Store, a different address is the single most common reason step 2 refuses somebody.

Being on the list is permission; opting in is accepting it, and Play wants both. It gives the test two links for this and they are not interchangeable, so take the one that matches what you are reading this on.
A tester list can take a few hours to reach the store. If either link still refuses you right after being added, that is why — it is not something you did wrong, and it clears on its own.

Once you are opted in, the listing behaves like any other app page and installs from Play.
Please leave it installed and stay opted in rather than joining and leaving. Google counts a closed test by testers who have been continuously opted in, and it wants twelve of them for fourteen unbroken days before the app can leave closed testing — so somebody who opts out and back in starts that count again from zero.
