Join the Android test

The Android build is on Google Play as a closed test, which grants access by list rather than by link. Your Google account has to be on the tester list before Play will let you in — so the two steps below are in that order, and the second one does nothing without the first.

01

Get on the tester list

Join the tester group. It is a public Google Group, and membership of it is what puts you on Play's tester list — so this is the whole of step one. If the group asks you to request membership rather than letting you straight in, it is approved by hand and you will get an email when it is done.

Join the tester group

Join it with the same Google account you are signed in to on the tablet. Play matches the tester list against the account signed in to the Play Store, not against whoever opened the link — a different address is the single most common reason step 2 refuses somebody.

02

Opt in

Being on the list is permission; opting in is accepting it, and Play needs both. Play gives the test two links for this and they are not interchangeable — take the one that matches what you are reading this on.

A tester list can take a few hours to reach the store. If either link still refuses you right after being added, that is why — it is not something you did wrong, and it clears on its own.

03

Install it, and stay opted in

Once you are opted in the listing behaves like any other app page and installs from Play.

Please leave it installed and stay opted in rather than joining and leaving. Google counts a closed test by testers who have been continuously opted in, and somebody who opts out and back in starts that count again from zero.
